The UGM Faculty of Pharmacy is hosting a site visit from the Accreditation Agency for Study Programmes in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics (ASIIN) on Jan. 15-16. The purpose of this visit is to assess the eligibility of five study programs within the faculty for ASIIN accreditation.

The five programs from the Faculty of Pharmacy include the Undergraduate Pharmacy Program, Professional Pharmacist Program, Master’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Master’s in Clinical Pharmacy, Master’s in Pharmacy Management, and Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

ASIIN assessors, university leaders, and faculty representatives are attending the accreditation process to elaborate on the quality of UGM’s academic and non-academic programs.

Several topics were discussed during the session with the assessors, including student mobility, research collaboration, funding, and student activities.

“This international accreditation is part of UGM’s commitment to accelerating the quality of education and exploring its potential contribution to society,” said UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Professor Wening Udasmoro, on Wednesday (Jan. 15), at the Multimedia Room, UGM Central Office.

Rainer Arnold Dipl. Phys, one of the ASIIN assessors, discussed the Faculty of Pharmacy’s efforts to improve learning quality and promote its study programs.

During the event, Professor Udasmoro mentioned that UGM offers various international mobility programs for students and lecturers.

“The number of students who have received international exposure programs has reached 2,000,” she said.

In 2024, Professor Udasmoro added that programs like the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) from the government and inter-university collaborations have facilitated students to study at overseas universities.

“We believe that cultural exchange through student mobility is one of UGM’s pillars. It is also a way to understand global situations and collaborate,” Professor Udasmoro explained.

Regarding international cooperation, she noted that the Faculty of Pharmacy already has student exchange programs with Leiden University and Groningen University.

This commitment to international collaboration is further realized through research collaborations, which enable lecturers to publish in international standard journals.

UGM’s Director of Partnerships and Global Relations, Professor Puji Astuti, explained that lecturer mobility is highly effective in building international networks and improving the quality of university research.

Additionally, UGM maintains its standards by recruiting educators with international experience or those who have participated in global networks.

Director of Education and Teaching, Professor Gandes Retno Rahayu, stated that this program provides opportunities for UGM educators to gain international exposure.

“UGM also has training programs for lecturers and non-teaching staff. We bring in experts as needed. They come and conduct training at UGM,” she explained.

Another ASIIN assessor, Professor Moritz Bünemann from the University of Marburg–Phillips, inquired about UGM’s efforts to manage learning quality concerning students.

Professor Rahayu explained that UGM implements open communication with students through feedback and discussions to enhance learning.

“Our students are critical; they submit evaluations to the faculty and university. I think this is very good as it creates a balanced role,” she explained.

These efforts are also incorporated into the Simaster system in the Evaluation of Lecturers by Students (EDOM), conducted after mid-term and final exams.

Students can assess the learning process and even provide suggestions and feedback to the university. Students also actively organize discussion sessions with the faculty or advocate for services or campus policies.

The ASIIN accreditation assessment for UGM’s Faculty of Pharmacy is being held for two days. The reassessment comes after two study programs received ASIIN certification in 2021 and are being renewed this year for two programs.

This accreditation is hoped to serve as UGM’s consistent effort to evaluate and improve the quality of education and teaching.

Universitas Gadjah Mada recently held the Opening of Online International Accreditation by the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) from Aug. 7 to 9.

This event marked the initial meeting to accredit three UGM programs: the Bachelor of French Language and Literature, Bachelor of Philosophy, and Master’s in Linguistics.

UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia stated that UGM is applying for FIBAA accreditation for these three programs.

“These programs have diligently applied FIBAA standards to meet the required quality benchmarks,” said the rector on Friday (Aug. 9).

FIBAA is an international accreditation agency established to ensure quality and promote the development of higher education. The agency aims to promote, update, and reform systems and institutions in higher education by certifying the quality of educational programs and institutions.

The accreditation process began with presentations from the three programs, followed by in-depth discussions on various aspects of university strategy, including rankings, research support, and internationalization. During the discussion, UGM panelists responded to questions guided by FIBAA moderators.

The discussion started with questions from Hans-Georg, an assessor, about the importance of university rankings in university strategy and the concrete steps to support research and publication.

Professor Indra Wijaya Kusuma, Head of UGM’s Quality Assurance and Reputation Unit (SPMRU), added that ranking has two goals: to gain recognition as mandated by the government and to ensure UGM becomes a benchmark among the world’s best universities.

“In terms of the learning process, we want to know if we have the same standards as the world’s top universities,” Professor Kusuma explained.

He emphasized that good rankings allow universities to receive more support for study mobility and opportunities to improve research and publication quality.

The accreditation proposal process included Professor Wening Udasmoro, Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching; Professor Setiadi, Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences; Dr. Siti Murtiningsih, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy; and Dr. Suhandono, Head of the Linguistics Program.

The UGM Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UGM) has successfully maintained its accreditation status from the prestigious international business school accreditation body, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), marking the third consecutive time FEB UGM has achieved it.

FEB UGM first earned this accreditation in 2014, becoming the first business school in Indonesia to be AACSB accredited. Subsequently, FEB UGM successfully maintained its first reaccreditation in 2019 and the second in 2024.

The Dean of FEB UGM, Professor Didi Achjari, stated that the successful maintenance of this international accreditation is proof of recognition that the educational processes, human resources, infrastructure, and student achievements at FEB UGM adhere to “best practices” and are on par with leading universities worldwide.

With the mission to nurture future-ready leaders in economics and business to foster sustainability, FEB UGM is firmly committed to continuing its contribution to education, research, and community service that has a broad impact on society.

“FEB UGM has undergone two reaccreditations or extensions of accreditation as part of a continuous process for improvement. With this reaccreditation achievement, we reaffirm our commitment to ongoing improvement and enhancing the quality of education, research, and contributions to society at both national and global levels,” he said on Friday, Jul. 5, 2024, during a press conference at the FEB UGM campus.

Professor Achjari emphasized that the accreditation obtained is not merely a certificate. This accreditation is proof of the improvements and quality enhancements in various fields, particularly in the tri-dharma of higher education.

“The AACSB accreditation achievement proves that all the tri-dharma activities conducted by FEB UGM have a broad impact on society and the business world. This aligns with UGM’s mission and vision to become a world-class, excellent, and innovative university that benefits society,” the dean explained.

Professor Achjari mentioned that the AACSB recognition is an achievement for FEB UGM and the result of hard work from the academic community (lecturers, students), professional staff, alumni, and partner support.

The AACSB accreditation achievement obtained by FEB UGM in 2024 feels even more special.

FEB UGM has successfully expanded the scope of study programs accredited by AACSB International, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs under the Department of Economics.

Thus, 13 study programs, from undergraduate to doctoral levels, in the Departments of Accounting, Economics, and Management have received AACSB accreditation.

This demonstrates FEB UGM’s dedication to providing high-quality education relevant to global needs.

The Vice Dean of FEB UGM for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Bayu Sutikno, added that the AACSB International reaccreditation also marks the quality of the entire learning process at FEB UGM, comparable to business schools worldwide.

“Only 6 percent of business schools worldwide are AACSB accredited. Therefore, the AACSB reaccreditation achieved by FEB UGM shows an extraordinary achievement,” he explained.

Dr. Sutikno stated that this AACSB International reaccreditation opens up new, larger opportunities for developing educational programs, including providing broader international exposure.

Additionally, this reaccreditation opens more doors for students and lecturers to gain international experience, such as student exchanges, double degree programs, international summer courses, joint research, visiting professors, and more.

FEB UGM has partnered with over 78 university partners in various countries worldwide.

Moreover, this reaccreditation also opens opportunities to develop innovative online learning courses internationally, such as the Digital Accounting Transformation course organized by FEB UGM in collaboration with the Partnership of Asian Management Schools (PAMS).

Additionally, there are programs and courses on sustainability issues. For example, the ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management program, in collaboration with the University of Agder and AUN-BE, offers a collaborative MBA program.

This program brings together various academic and practical perspectives to address sustainability challenges.

Dr. Sutikno explained that achieving the second AACSB International reaccreditation brings greater responsibility for FEB UGM to expand its positive contributions to society.

“The AACSB International accreditation achievement is the result of the efforts of all academic community members. This is not the end of the journey but rather a step towards continuously providing the best quality education to produce future leaders with a sustainability perspective and impacting society,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Suyanto, the Vice Dean of FEB for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources, added that since being accredited in 2014, FEB has continuously strived to improve a sustainable and internationally standardized support ecosystem.

One effort is developing international standard facilities and infrastructure, providing laboratory facilities and online learning resources, including databases such as Bloomberg, CEIC, and Osiris, and developing the Learning Academic and Multimedia Production (LAMP) to create various online learning models.

Furthermore, it provides facilities that are friendly to all groups, including people with disabilities and applies Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability (CSHE) principles in all campus activities.

He continued that FEB UGM simplifies business processes to make them more accessible, efficient, and faster by utilizing information technology as an enabler.

One example is forming the LAMP unit to prepare learning materials in the digital era and strengthening the Faculty of Economics and Business Information System Unit (SIFE) by developing applications and information systems.

FEB UGM also allocates organizational resources focused on improving the competence and capacity of lecturers and professional staff to provide the best service to students.

Lecturer qualifications according to national and international accreditation standards are enhanced by providing MOOC (massive online and open courses)-based teaching/education grants, independent, competitive, and collaborative research grants, and community service grants through clinics by laboratories and study fields.

“Additionally, capacity development for lecturers and professional staff is provided through scholarships for further studies, training programs, development, and certifications to enhance competencies,” Dr. Suyanto said.

The AACSB International accreditation obtained by FEB UGM, said Vice Dean of FEB UGM for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni, Dr. Gumilang Aryo Sahadewo, provides new opportunities to establish broader partnerships with leading business schools worldwide and opens opportunities for student and lecturer exchanges, international conferences, joint research, and other collaborative initiatives.

For example, FEB UGM has built online learning collaborations with five international partner universities within the Partnership of Asian Management School (PAMS).

FEB UGM also developed the ASEAN Master in Sustainability program for ASEAN and Norwegian students in collaboration with the University of Agder. The Norwegian government fully funds this program.

The AACSB International reaccreditation achievement in 2024 completes the recognition of FEB UGM’s educational quality.

In 2024, FEB UGM also received the “Excellent” accreditation from the Institute of Accreditation for Economics, Management, Business, and Accounting Programs (LAMEMBA) for the first time.

Previously, the accreditation was obtained from BAN-PT in recognition of the international AACSB accreditation.

This year, 12 programs from undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and professional levels at FEB UGM, which were accredited “spartan” from January 2024 to April 2024, all achieved the highest rating of “Excellent” from LAMEMBA.

This marks the first time FEB UGM participated in national accreditation by LAMEMBA, not just a conversion or recognition from international accreditation, alongside the AACSB accreditation.

The simultaneous achievement of excellent LAMEMBA accreditation (12 programs) and international AACSB accreditation (13 programs) in 2024 would not have been possible without the support of all parties, including lecturers, students, professional staff, alumni, and partners, as well as the support from the rector and the team at UGM’s Central Office.

The Dean of FEB UGM expressed gratitude for the support and contributions from everyone involved in this achievement.

Twelve (12) study programs at the UGM Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UGM) have successfully achieved the highest accreditation, “Excellent,” from the Institute of Accreditation for Economics, Management, Business, and Accounting (LAMEMBA).

The twelve study programs are the Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Economics, Master of Accounting, Master of Development Economics, Master of Management, Master of Management (Jakarta Campus), Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Management, Doctor of Accounting, Doctor of Management, and the Professional Accountant program.

Regarding this achievement, FEB UGM Dean Professor Didi Achjari stated that FEB UGM currently oversees 14 study programs under three departments, including three bachelor programs, seven master programs, three doctoral programs, and one professional program.

Established on Sept. 19, 1955, FEB UGM is the oldest business school in Indonesia. It continues its strong commitment to being Indonesia’s leading economics and business faculty.

This strong commitment also represents FEB UGM’s efforts to face global challenges and nurture future leaders in economics and business with a focus on sustainability.

“The achievement of the ‘Excellent’ accreditation from LAMEMBA by 12 study programs at FEB UGM is a proud accomplishment and should be collectively celebrated. It reflects the commitment and hard work of these 12 programs and all stakeholders to improve continuously,” said the dean on Tuesday (Jun. 11) at FEB UGM.

“Meanwhile, the remaining two programs, the Master of Science in Economics and the Doctor of Economics, will undergo accreditation visits in 2025. Hopefully, the accreditation process for these two programs will go smoothly, and they will achieve the same status.”

Dean Achjari revealed that the accreditation results had improved compared to the previous period when 10 of the 12 programs were accredited ‘Excellent’ and two were accredited ‘A.’ In 2024, all twelve programs achieved the ‘Excellent’ status from LAMEMBA.

He explained that the national-level accreditation process for study programs is part of FEB UGM’s efforts to enhance the quality of education and learning and the faculty’s reputation. This accreditation from LAMEMBA also demonstrates FEB UGM’s consistency in maintaining the quality of its teaching and learning.

FEB UGM has produced over 49,000 alumni and around 5,500 students from various regions in Indonesia and various countries studying at different educational levels, including bachelor, master, doctoral, and professional programs.

With over 68 years of experience, FEB UGM has and will continue to contribute to addressing various local and global challenges, supported by more than 200 competent teaching and professional staff.

In addition to undergoing the LAMEMBA reaccreditation process at the national level, FEB UGM has also undergone a peer review visit by a team from The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), an international business school accreditation organization. FEB UGM received its first accreditation from AACSB in 2014.

As a leading business school, Dean Achjari stated that FEB UGM is currently recognized nationally and internationally. Besides having a vast network, FEB UGM is also a member of several organizations, including the Global Business School Network (GBSN), the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Network of International Business and Economic Schools (NIBES), the Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS), and the ASEAN University Network for Business and Economics (AUN-BE).

“The challenges are becoming more complex; therefore, FEB will always strive to provide the best contributions. We hope for collaboration, synergy, and full support from all stakeholders, including students, lecturers, professional staff, alumni, parents of students, and the community,” he concluded.

“FMIPA UGM is committed to contributing to the realization of Golden Indonesia 2045 by maintaining high graduate employability, preserving academic reputation, expanding national contributions, and ensuring campus welfare,” said the dean in his statement to reporters on Tuesday (Apr. 30).

The QS WUR By Subject rankings are based on criteria such as academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per academic paper, productivity index, publication impact, and international publication collaborations.

Dean Triyana explained that FMIPA UGM continuously improves its academic standards by developing and updating curricula to align with scientific advancements and industry needs.

“We aim to produce graduates who excel and possess outstanding skills,” he stated.

Out of eight undergraduate and ten master’s and doctoral programs, four undergraduate programs have received international ASIIN accreditation: Computer Science, Electronics and Instrumentation, Mathematics, and Statistics.

Several other programs are applying for ASIIN accreditation this year, and the Master’s Program in Computer Science has also received accreditation.

FMIPA UGM has 199 active faculty members evenly distributed across departments to support learning and research publications. It has 42 professors and 134 certified lecturers, making up 67% of the total faculty.

Regarding research funding, FMIPA UGM frequently collaborates with external parties, both industrial and institutional. External funding accounts for 83.5% of the total research funding.

In terms of partnerships, FMIPA UGM has established 145 domestic and 23 international collaborations. International partners include nine countries: Japan, Australia, Taiwan, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and Germany.

“Japan and Australia have the most partnerships, with five each,” he noted.

These collaborations encompass education, research, and community service, such as student exchanges, joint research, educational programs, and training.

Some notable collaborations include dual degree programs for BSc in Computer Science and Chemistry with the University of Birmingham, MSc in Computer Science with Kanazawa University, MSc in Computer Science with National Central University Taiwan, and joint PhD programs in Mathematics with the University of Twente.

Dual Master’s degrees in computer science are also offered between the faculty and the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and a double PhD with National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.

FMIPA UGM conducts tracer studies regarding graduate employability, showing that alumni generally secure jobs within three months of graduation.

It has also established the FMIPA UGM Advisory Board, a collaboration with the FMIPA UGM Alumni Association (KAMIPAGAMA), involving alumni in key positions such as directors, CEOs, and managers.

Formed in 2023, the advisory board aims to accelerate FMIPA UGM’s transformation into an excellent and innovative campus in implementing the tri-dharma of higher education.

The board, chaired by Daniel Oscar Baskoro and comprised of 63 alumni, is divided into three commissions: Curriculum Development Strategy, Job Matching Strategy, and Research and Innovation Strategy.

One of the board’s tasks is to enhance employability and bring FMIPA UGM closer to the industry, a crucial aspect of the tri-dharma of higher education.
