Undergraduate and graduate programs at the Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada, have received full accreditation from ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik).

This accreditation highlights the programs’ alignment with international standards.

The six accredited programs include Undergraduate Programs in Environmental Geography, Cartography and Remote Sensing, and Regional Development.

These programs received a seven-year accreditation period from Oct. 1, 2024, to Sept. 30, 2031.

Three graduate programs, including the Master’s Programs in Geography and Remote Sensing and the Doctoral Program in Geography, also received ASIIN international accreditation.

These graduate programs were awarded a six-year accreditation period, effective from Dec. 5, 2024, to Sept. 30, 2030.

This ASIIN accreditation further strengthens the Faculty of Geography’s role nationally and internationally in education, research, and community service.

The importance of international accreditation for academic programs aligns with the spirit of global and regional education, which has developed an education system based on learning outcomes.

The Dean of the UGM Faculty of Geography, Danang Sri Hadmoko, stated that obtaining this international accreditation reflects a public responsibility to realize professional, efficient, high-quality, transparent, and accountable academic and supporting components management at the faculty.

He noted that this accreditation demonstrates that the academic programs at the Faculty of Geography are of excellent quality and comparable to similar programs worldwide.

Additionally, this accreditation signifies that internationalization has become a culture and has been internalized by all components within the Faculty of Geography.

“This accreditation achievement also reflects a strong synergy among the components, including faculty members, non-teaching staff, students at all levels, strategic partners, and alumni. We appreciate and extend our gratitude to everyone who has worked very well together to achieve this international accreditation,” said the dean on Saturday (Jan. 25).

The Vice Dean for Education, Teaching, and Student Affairs, Professor Muhammad Kamal, stated that the Faculty of Geography views this accreditation achievement as a form of commitment to continuously enhancing its international reputation and the quality of its programs, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

“The success of obtaining ASIIN accreditation proves that the outputs of our graduates, curriculum, teaching methods, processes, and resources at FGE align with international standards,” he said.

Despite having received international accreditation for all its programs, Professor Kamal emphasized that the Faculty of Geography remains committed to continuous improvement and delivering its best efforts, particularly in the academic field.

He highlighted that this accreditation is crucial for students, supporting their participation in various international exposure activities.

The Head of the Faculty of Geography’s Quality Assurance Unit, Dr. M. Widyastuti, stated that the long accreditation period encourages academic programs to continually improve in a sustainable manner (continuous improvement) in academic quality assurance.

She added that this international accreditation achievement further enhances the academic reputation of the Faculty of Geography and Universitas Gadjah Mada.

One of the doctoral candidates in the Doctoral Program in Geography, Listumbinang Halengkara, expressed appreciation for this achievement and pride as a student.

He noted that this accreditation is crucial for students, as ASIIN accreditation is a benchmark for the quality of academic programs at the global level.

“This means that when I graduate, the knowledge and degree I have obtained will be globally recognized and help enhance my recognition as an academic. I hope that the academic programs at this faculty will maintain high-quality standards in every learning process and keep innovating in educating the nation’s children,” he said.

Driven by his passion for anthropology since high school, Professor Subandi continued to study the subject despite enrolling in the Psychology program at Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Upon graduating and applying to become a lecturer, Professor Subandi merged both disciplines to create a culture- and spirituality-based mental health therapy.

The professor from UGM’s Faculty of Psychology shared the long journey of his career as an academic. Since beginning his service in 1986, he has been actively involved in the tri-dharma of higher education, particularly research.

Although he has a background in psychology, he has a deep interest in anthropology, which is supported by his passion for writing.

After following his mentor’s advice to pursue Psychology at UGM and being accepted as a student, he continued to explore anthropology through research and international collaboration, which continues to this day.

His love for anthropology deepened when he collaborated with international anthropologists. In 1996, he became an assistant to Professor Byron Good, a Harvard University mental health anthropologist.

“This collaboration has lasted for over 25 years, resulting in in-depth research on mental health from a cultural perspective,” he recalled on Saturday (Jan. 11).

Additionally, Professor Subandi worked with Dr. Julia Howell from Griffith University in Australia for five years. This collaboration integrated anthropology approaches into his mental health research, including developing culturally and spiritually based mental health service systems.

“We didn’t just collect data, but we also conducted action research so that our studies had a direct, real impact on society,” he explained.

Professor Subandi’s success in combining psychology and anthropology has made him known as an academic who focuses on culture—and spirituality-based mental health.

Professor Subandi is also an expert in psychological methodology, design and analysis, religious psychology, and health, as well as clinical and counseling psychology.

“I always view mental health from the individual’s perspective and the societal, cultural, and spiritual contexts. Islamic psychology and cultural psychology are also part of my focus,” he said.

He innovated a referral model at mental hospitals from his international research efforts. This innovation ensures that after getting treatments in hospitals, patients with mental disorders receive follow-up therapy at community health centers (puskesmas).

The second innovation he developed was the “Gelimas Jiwa” program at Kasihan II Bantul Health Center. This program involves training mental health cadres in the community to assist patients.

In fact, this program received recognition from the Ministry of State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform (Kemenpan-RB). His third innovation was a mental health policy in Kulon Progo Regency.

Together with the Kulon Progo Health Office, he developed a Regional Action Plan (RAD) to enhance mental health services at the regency level.

“These innovations don’t just stop at research but are directly implemented in the community. The results must be tangible, and this will continue,” Professor Subandi stated.

He was awarded the Silver Academic Leader Award 2024 from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia for the innovations he has developed over the decades.

This award was given for his extraordinary contributions to research, innovation, and the development of mental health systems in Indonesia.

According to him, the award he received could not be separated from proper documentation, which included certificates, research contracts, and photos of activities.

“This is an important lesson for all of us, and good documentation makes it easier to recap what we’ve done. It helps others understand our track record and prevents us from easily forgetting what we’ve accomplished,” the professor added.

Professor Subandi’s award further motivates him to remain enthusiastic about continuing his research on culture—and spirituality-based mental health therapy.

“I truly love writing and researching. For me, awards are a bonus. I will continue my research and write books even without awards because I never aimed for that,” he said.

To date, Professor Subandi has written more than 20 books and dozens of international journal articles. He is also actively sharing his experiences with students and junior lecturers.

“My message is to have a strong passion, focus on one field, and develop it consistently. Successful researchers have a clear focus,” he said.

This award is a personal achievement and a source of pride for UGM. It is hoped that Professor Subandi’s dedication to developing Indonesia’s mental health system will inspire academics and students to continue creating and positively impacting society.

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) continues to promote gender equality research and facilitates women’s participation in various activities specifically coordinated by the Directorate of Research and the Women’s Studies Center.

Collaborative research between students and faculty on gender studies is consistently encouraged to serve as a reference for gender studies in Indonesia and globally.

In addition to promoting research publications, female members of UGM’s academic community have equal rights and opportunities to receive student support and facilities during their studies at UGM.

One example is the dissemination of information on handling sexual violence for students before assignments and deployment for the Community Service Program (KKN PPM).

UGM also provides the necessary support for students to attend events requiring female representation and advocacy.

EduRank has recognized UGM’s success in promoting gender studies and strengthening the role of women in education and learning, placing UGM as the top university in Indonesia for Gender Studies.

Internationally, UGM ranks 612th in the world.

Based on the 2024 ranking results, UGM is among 49 universities with the best Gender Studies programs nationally and internationally.

Professor Indra Wijaya Kusuma, Head of the University Quality Assurance and Reputation Unit (SPMRU) at UGM, welcomed the results of EduRank’s assessment of gender studies.

He explained that the ranking was based on indicators of graduate quality and research performance.

“This indicator reflects a combined percentage, with graduates contributing 10 percent and research performance accounting for 45 percent,” he said on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.

According to Professor Kusuma, the ranking agency uses the OpenAlex database as a proxy to gather scientific publications and citation results.

Additionally, 45% of the ranking is based on non-academic excellence indicators.

Professor Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, a researcher from the Center for Legal, Gender, and Social Studies at UGM’s Faculty of Law (FH UGM), stated that UGM conducts extensive gender research that influences publications and curricula and has a societal impact through policy advocacy.

“The cited publications indicate that UGM actively promotes gender mainstreaming and integrates gender issues into many faculties,” she said.

Research on law, gender, and social humanities needs to be supported by best practices and publications that benefit society.

Moreover, UGM places special emphasis on the issue of preventing and protecting against sexual violence.

“These best practices are one of the indicators that reflect the pioneering initiatives in sexual violence prevention on campus,” she explained.

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has once again achieved outstanding success in sustainability, as reflected in its performance in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025.

This year, UGM ranked 131st globally and secured the 1st position in Indonesia and Southeast Asia in the Good Governance category with an impressive score of 91.5.

The governance indicator, which represents 10% of the total score, has been a key driver in UGM’s advancement in sustainability practices.

Overall, UGM achieved 383rd place globally, a significant leap from its previous ranking of 476th. Notable progress was also seen in two other categories: Environmental Impact, where UGM ranked 358th globally and 2nd in Indonesia, and Social Impact, where it ranked 581st globally and 1st in Indonesia.

This achievement cannot be separated from the efforts of UGM’s academic community through the University Quality Assurance and Reputation Unit (SPMRU UGM), which acts as the implementing body of UGM’s Sustainability Office.

SPMRU UGM is tasked with ensuring comprehensive data collection and reporting, understanding the sustainability indicators in detail, and formulating strategies to improve UGM’s performance in line with ranking criteria in collaboration with all implementing units across the university.

The Head of SPMRU UGM, Professor Indra Wijaya Kusuma, stated that one of UGM’s strategic steps is adopting a comprehensive approach to understanding and fulfilling each ranking indicator.

“Through in-depth studies and close collaboration with relevant work units, SPMRU and the Sustainability Office have successfully guided UGM to meet global sustainability governance standards,” Professor Kusuma said in an interview at the UGM campus on Monday (Dec. 30).

In the QS WUR Sustainability governance metrics, several aspects are assessed, including governance, research, and financial components such as ethics culture, open-access publishing, dedicated staff/team for sustainable development, transparent financial reporting, student union, student representation in governance, published governance minutes, a national signatory to the UN charter against torture, staff perception on institutional ethics, and policy citations (governance).

Through these governance aspects, UGM has demonstrated excellent performance in several indicators, such as ethics, culture, open-access publishing, and student representation in governance.

For instance, UGM prioritizes transparency through publicly accessible reporting systems, such as the whistleblowing platform and routinely published financial reports.

Various programs also support these governance aspects, including ethics culture, where UGM has clear policies on values such as diversity, honesty, and fairness, documented in the university’s strategic plan and disseminated across all organizational levels.

Staff and students are trained on these values. UGM also implements transparent financial reporting, with its financial reports published annually and accessible via its official website.

With these efforts, UGM has successfully improved its governance, as reflected in its high scores in the QS Sustainability Ranking. Student involvement in university governance is also a crucial factor contributing to this score.

“UGM also has student unions representing both undergraduate and postgraduate students, with activities including student participation in decision-making processes at the university level, which the QS Rankings also assess,” Professor Kusuma said.

However, UGM acknowledges challenges that must be addressed to continue improving governance indicators, one of which is ensuring a uniform understanding of business processes across units.

This challenge often makes translating policies into efficient governance systems difficult, particularly in reporting, documentation, and administrative services.

UGM is committed to updating policies and business processes, developing better governance systems, benchmarking against higher-ranked universities, and strengthening efforts to build a shared understanding of the importance of good governance and its impact on the university’s reputation.

In addition, UGM will continue to encourage the participation of its entire academic community in supporting better governance, emphasizing the positive impact of improved university reputation.

This enhancement is expected to open broader opportunities for global collaboration and improve the welfare of the entire UGM community. With this strategy, UGM remains committed to being deeply rooted in its values and advancing as an inclusive and sustainable campus.

The complexity of challenges in national and global ecosystems requires Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to be adaptive and innovative, supported by character-driven, agile, and sustainable leadership.

As a national university, UGM’s commitment to nurturing national spirit and civility in building the character of future generations is also part of its mandate in developing educational and learning programs.

To enhance graduate quality and competence and increase UGM’s contribution to national and global development, UGM collaborates with central government bodies, ministries, agencies, regional governments, industries, foundations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Due to its achievements in establishing partnerships with national and international partners, UGM received the gold winner award for Best University Collaboration with Government or NGOs and the silver winner award for Best International University Collaboration.

These awards were presented at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Award Ceremony in Jakarta on Friday (Dec. 13).

In response to the award, Professor Puji Astuti, UGM Director of Partnership and Global Relations (DKRG UGM), expressed her gratitude that the government has recognized UGM’s efforts in fostering relationships at national and international levels.

According to Professor Astuti, UGM’s various collaborations aim to support student mobility programs, faculty exchanges, and joint international publications.

Collaborations with the central government, regional governments, industries, foundations, and NGOs are also expected to further enhance UGM’s reputation and contribution through research innovation and community service activities.

In addition to promoting student mobility, UGM also facilitates faculty mobility through 59 international activities organized by DKRG UGM.

To encourage participation from work units in international activities, Professor Astuti mentioned that DKRG UGM provides Summer Course Grants, International Team Teaching Grants, and International Joint Supervision Grants.

“Throughout 2024, UGM awarded five Summer Course Grants involving a total of 50 international lecturers and 200 international students. The Summer Course themes are oriented toward strengthening UGM’s flagship programs and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” she stated on Monday (Dec. 23) at the UGM Campus.

As part of its efforts to facilitate international partnerships and strengthen the innovation ecosystem, UGM actively participates in 14 international consortia. Not only is UGM an active member of these consortia, but it also serves as a coordinator in drafting concept notes and implementing partnerships.

“In forming the InuCOST consortium, which involves three universities in the Netherlands and five universities in Indonesia, UGM has played an active role as an interface, facilitating communication between universities in the Netherlands, Indonesian universities, and the DRPTM Dikti, which provides LPDP funding of 400,000 euros per year dedicated to this consortium,” she explained.

Head of the Sub-Directorate of Domestic Cooperation, DKRG UGM, Dr. Johan Syafri Mahathir Ahmad, stated that this award further motivates his team to strengthen synergy and enhance collaboration efforts.

This recognition would not have been possible without UGM’s internal support and collaboration with external partners, particularly the government and NGOs.

“We greatly appreciate the strong cooperation with our existing partners. Moving forward, we hope to further increase collaborations, not only in terms of numbers but also in terms of their broader impact on society,” said Dr. Ahmad.

According to Dr. Ahmad, collaboration partners are not only funders of research but also contributors to research topics and issues.

He noted that government partners can initiate collaborative research and studies on pressing problems.

Through these research partnerships, UGM can produce outputs such as patents, books, modules, and publications, which in turn enhance UGM’s reputation in national and international rankings.

Not relying solely on existing partners, UGM is also actively expanding and deepening collaborations for the future.

“As facilitators, we help the university map out potential partners that can be synergized for future collaborations,” Dr. Ahmad concluded.

The Chair of Muhammadiyah Central Leadership, Professor Haedar Nashir, said issues of ethics and morals remain closely linked to the weaknesses in Indonesian society’s character.

Several incidents or cases, as social facts, reflect the moral and ethical crisis or degradation of the nation’s noble values in recent times.

The most prominent cases include the dismissal of the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK), the Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and the Chairperson of the General Election Commission (KPU), which represent the erosion of moral and ethical standards among state officials or public figures.

The most recent case involves the resignation of a government official who is also a religious leader due to ethical propriety in social interactions.

“Moral and ethical violations by public officials should not be taken lightly or considered ordinary as they concern the nation’s elite, who should serve as role models for the people,” said Professor Nashir during his address for the Hamengku Buwono IX Award from Universitas Gadjah Mada in 2024.

The ceremony was held at the Kagungan Dalem Bangsal Srimanganti of Yogyakarta Palace on Thursday night, Dec. 19.

In his speech titled “Transforming the Mentality and Culture of Indonesia,” Professor Nashir explained that moral and ethical issues within the nation’s mentality are cultural issues relating to humanity’s collective knowledge system in a shared life. Indonesian society has developed new lifestyles that reflect anomie or anomalies, namely behavioral deviations within society.

When corruption, materialism, money politics, the pursuit of worldly pleasures (hedonism), and opportunism (justifying any means to an end) become widespread, uprootedness results.

“We can still enumerate structural problems in the nation, such as corruption, abuse of power, money politics, transactional politics, and other political issues that touch on moral and ethical domains. In everyday life, the problems are just as serious, including online gambling, cyber crime, drug abuse, sexual violence, murders within families or among close acquaintances, the low level of civility among Indonesian netizens in social media, and other sociopathic problems,” he explained.

For Professor Nashir, the dimensions of morality and ethics in a society or nation cannot be underestimated because they concern good and bad values, which inherently represent humanity’s spiritual dignity and intellectual integrity.

These moral and ethical issues cannot be marginalized as mere domestic or private matters. Even in nations known for being advanced and secular-modern, these values are still upheld.

“Many cases demonstrate how high-ranking officials, even prime ministers, resign due to professional and public ethics issues. This is especially important for Indonesia, a nation rooted in religious values, Pancasila, and the noble cultural traditions of its people,” he added.

A transformative cultural approach is necessary to address the nation’s mental weakness. Transformation serves as a middle path for change, guiding Indonesia toward progress while fostering a strong Indonesian character both individually and collectively within a new cultural system.

In this context, Indonesia possesses crystallized virtues that serve as significant social and cultural capital. Among these are resilience, the ability to endure hardship, prioritizing harmony, and mutual cooperation.

These virtues remain relevant but require adaptation and development to align with the dynamics and challenges of the times.

“It is urgent to transform the nation’s character by preserving and enhancing long-established virtues while developing new ones, including openness to the virtues of other advanced nations,” he elaborated.

According to Professor Nashir, transforming Indonesians into intelligent individuals with strong character in today’s context means fostering religiosity, intellectual capacity, and mastery of science and technology, complemented by superior mental qualities such as trustworthiness, sincerity, honesty, courage, decisiveness, resilience, independence, and adherence to principles.

Indonesia’s vision for 2045 can be realized if today’s younger generation embodies these qualities—rather than being weak, submissive, superficial, parasitic, or exploitative of cheap populism without the knowledge, character, and exemplary behavior needed for excellence.

Professor Nashir has been a dedicated figure in Muhammadiyah since 1983. For Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, Professor Nashir has not only been present in the historical arena but has carved a wealth of meaning into it.

The Sultan highlighted that under Haedar’s leadership, Muhammadiyah has successfully advanced its vision of excellence on both national and global scales.

“The concept of ‘Centre of Excellence’ is not just an empty idea but a way of life for Muhammadiyah at the national and global levels,” said the Sultan.

Professor Nashir’s leadership has produced significant milestones, such as the Muhammadiyah Da’wah Center in Cairo, Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM), and Muhammadiyah Australia College (MAC) in Melbourne.

“Essentially, these projects are not merely about physical development or network expansion but noble efforts to build a robust civilization based on Islamic values that are moderate, inclusive, and progressive,” said the Sultan.

The Sultan acknowledged Professor Nashir’s leadership as a reflection of Muhammadiyah’s philosophy of progress, community development, and spreading benefits to the universe.

“In his thoughts, knowledge is not merely a symbol of information but a guiding light that should lead society amidst the challenges and dynamics of the era,” he explained.

UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia stated that Professor Haedar Nashir consistently and committedly carries out his duties in education, social, political, and humanitarian fields.

“Congratulations to Professor Haedar Nashir. May he continue to contribute to society and inspire future generations,” she said.

Professor Nashir expressed gratitude and honor for receiving this award, describing it as a pride because it represents the legacy of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX.

“My thanks to the Yogyakarta Palace for approving this award, to the Rector of UGM, and Muhammadiyah for giving me this opportunity. I feel honored to receive the Hamengku Buwono IX Award from UGM,” he stated.

As an alumnus who spent six years completing his master’s and doctoral studies in sociology, Professor Nashir explained that UGM provided him with essential values that he continues to uphold today.

He described UGM as an educational institution and a thought center that equips its students with tools and methodologies to internalize life values.

He outlined five main values he learned during his time at UGM.

  1. The value of truth based on knowledge: He explained that truth is not limited to academic logic but is also connected to Pancasila, religion, and the nation’s noble culture. “Truth is the main value of scholars,” he emphasized.
  1. The tradition of scholarship: He described UGM as a “school of thought” fostering critical thinking.
  2. Unity in diversity: As a miniature Indonesia, UGM provides a space for students of diverse backgrounds to learn to live harmoniously.
  3. Love for the people: He noted that UGM instills a sense of caring for the people, exemplified by real contributions like the Community Service Program (KKN).
  4. Global orientation: Professor Nashir encouraged UGM and Muhammadiyah institutions to respond actively to global issues, such as sustainable development goals and climate change, and lauded initiatives like Wanagama in the Nusantara Capital (IKN).

Professor Nashir emphasized the need to integrate education, knowledge, and social concern to build a better nation, urging all to move forward with a global spirit rooted in cultural and humanistic values.

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) honored several distinguished individuals with the Hamengku Buwono (HB) IX Award and the Universitas Gadjah Mada Award for their contributions to education, humanity, and strengthening diversity and peace.

The UGM Rector presented the awards, comprising medals and certificates, at the 75th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) celebration at Grha Sabha Pramana on Thursday, Dec. 19.

The HB IX Award was presented to Professor Haedar Nashir, Chair of Muhammadiyah Central Board, for his dedication to advancing education, social causes, politics, and humanity.

Four recipients of the UGM Award were also recognized: Alissa Qotrunnada Munawaroh Wahid, a psychologist and social activist known for promoting diversity and peace; Dr. Susanti, cancer pathology and pharmacology researcher; Professor Saeful Deni from Universitas Muhammadiyah Maluku Utara, recognized for empowering communities and alleviating poverty in North Maluku; and Professor Nyoman Kertia, a researcher specializing in herbal medicines and cultural studies.

Professor Nashir expressed his gratitude to UGM during a press conference for the recognition. He highlighted UGM’s unwavering commitment to upholding truth rooted in its core values.

“UGM is guided by five values and orientations, starting with truth based on knowledge connected to Pancasila, religion, and the nation’s culture. Our professors instilled in us the importance of being scientists grounded in truth wherever we are,” the awardee explained.

Professor Nashir also acknowledged UGM’s identity as a “people’s university,” emphasizing its responsibility to serve the public through practical academic initiatives like community service programs (KKN).

“This campus has long been known as the people’s university, and that means loving the people through practical, scholarly work like KKN and the roles played by its alumni and institutions,” he added.

Alissa Wahid also appreciated UGM’s strong commitment to the nation and its efforts to bridge the gap between knowledge and the public.

“UGM has a tremendous commitment to the nation and the people. Professor Ova Emilia has repeatedly emphasized UGM’s readiness to guide national leadership, ensuring it aligns with the interests of the people. It’s not just about advancing knowledge but ensuring that knowledge is brought closer to the people’s conditions to fulfill the nation’s aspirations,” Wahid remarked.

Similarly, Dr. Susanti, an alumna of UGM’s Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM), reflected on the values instilled during her time at UGM. These values inspired her cancer research to benefit society.

“One of the most memorable experiences for me was participating in KKN, where I deeply felt how knowledge should be used to benefit the wider community. Even though I spend most of my time in the lab, I strive to ensure that my work reaches patients,” Dr. Susanti said.

Professor Saeful Deni attributed his academic dedication to the foundation provided by UGM, his alma mater. He described UGM as a hub of knowledge that continues to impact his professional contributions.

“UGM provided us with the knowledge and experiences that guide us in our current roles. As an alumnus, I sincerely thank the rector and the academic community at Universitas Gadjah Mada,” Professor Deni concluded.

Dr. Arie Sujito, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni and Chair of the 75th Dies Natalis Committee, expressed his appreciation for the HB IX Award recipients for their significant contributions to society.

“UGM’s awards demonstrate its commitment to strengthening collaboration with alumni and building the best possible reputation,” he stated.

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has been recognized for its significant contributions to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Yogyakarta, particularly in addressing poverty and stunting.

The award was presented by the Vice Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), KGPAA Paku Alam X, to the Director of UGM’s Directorate of Community Service, Dr. Rustamaji, during the Monitoring and Evaluation of the Regional Action Plan (RAD) event.

Themed “Cross-Sector Collaboration for Achieving SDGs: Development Strategies to Enhance Community Welfare,” the event was held at Loman Park Hotel, Yogyakarta, on Tuesday (Dec. 17).

For Dr. Rustamaji, the award reinforces UGM’s role as a key institution in realizing better regional development outcomes.

“Through solid collaboration between the government, the private sector, and educational institutions like UGM, we hope that efforts to achieve the SDGs in Yogyakarta will continue to succeed, improving community welfare and creating a more sustainable future,” he said in a press statement on Thursday (Dec. 19).

Since 2022, UGM has partnered with the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda DIY) to implement the Community Service Program (KKN), which focuses on two main issues: poverty alleviation and reducing stunting rates.

These programs are conducted in areas the local government prioritizes to drive tangible change.

The Vice Governor of DIY, KGPAA Paku Alam X, expressed high appreciation for the contributions of non-governmental organizations and the private sector in driving regional development.

“We deeply value the extraordinary contributions made by various parties. You are strategic actors who turn cross-sector collaboration from a mere concept into a reality that delivers concrete impacts,” he stated.

Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti, Head of Bappeda DIY, emphasized that the event’s primary goal was to strengthen cross-sector synergy to ensure the achievement of SDGs in DIY.

She highlighted that SDGs are a global agenda with a 2030 deadline and a collective commitment to sustainable, inclusive, and equitable development.

The principle of “No One Left Behind” underpins every development initiative, ensuring that all community groups benefit from progress.
